What are patio homes: The patio (translated from Spanish simply “vegetable garden”) – a piece of land, fenced with a fence, patio. Long ago, like a vegetable garden, it was smashed from the back of the house.
In modern terms, the patio is also a “street living room” (often with a fireplace or fountain), and a solarium and a garden. The patio can be located in front of the house, in the courtyard or on a separate site, in a quiet and secluded place, protected from the wind.
The patio area should be flat and dry. Depending on the chosen style, it is lined with stone, tile or brick. Fall asleep with rubble, pebbles or sand. Pour concrete or spread with concrete slabs. Another option of “floor” is wooden flooring.
In one project, it is permissible to combine different materials. In any case, do not forget about drainage. With paved or bulk coating under the platform make a “pillow” of sand.
Its thickness depends on the quality of the “native” soil. Wooden elements of scaffolds and deckings make sense to treat with special compounds that prevent decay and swelling of wood.
Cold and Hot Shower
According to the laws of color, blue and yellow are contrast colors, like black and white. In this project, the designer made a bet on their “shock” combination: painted a corner concrete bench with bright yellow paint and covered the garden chairs with a blue cloth. It turned out bright and fresh! The appearance of certain materials in the design of the garden should be justified. Here, for example, lumber-sills do not seem to be a foreign part because of the wooden “backdrop”.
Hacking the Shoulders
Great idea: to make a partition in the form of a decorative woodpile, at the base of which a hedge is planted. The main focus is a window overlooking the dense greenery. If there was a perspective in the window, it would be even better.
Light in the Window
A real find of architects – an unusual fireplace, leaving a fire on the street. It does not violate the integrity of the facade and from the outside, it seems like another window. The only “but” – such a focus is not very effective in terms of heating: because of heat-resistant glass, heat hardly penetrates into the patio. In addition, there are doubts whether it looks beautiful in the unlit state. A black hole or ashes under the glass – the sight is not too pleasant!
The arched pergola, lined with lianas, creates a lively shadow in the garden and plays the role of a gazebo. It is interesting that as a decorative element this garden structure began to be used only at the end of the XIX century. Prior to this, the role of pergolas was purely utilitarian: it served as a prop for the vine. In our climate, a pergola is seen as lemongrass, hop and girlish grapes.
The old brick with peeling paint, washed by rain and burned in the sun, looks very picturesque. And the authors of the project know about this: they built a fence and a street hearth out of it. The whole picture is made of a stone floor with the sowing of grass.
Come out into the light
This street pavilion in the ultramodern key is a winning entourage for secular parties in the open air. Smoky concrete walls, polished to the shine stone floor tiles, lacquered leather upholstery seats – the decoration is reserved, but very refined. The canopy hardly protects the patio from the rain but casts off a beautifully patterned shadow.
Old and New
Modern furniture is appropriate in a classical environment. Here’s an example: a bright designer garden set based on the works of the classic pop art Robert Indiana did not spoil the open patio with a classic colonnade and clinker power, on the contrary – it became the main coloristic accent of this “garden room”. It really hits your eyes!
It will be hot
The empty corner of the garden near the deaf wall of the house can turn into a secluded refuge. It is enough to lay a fireplace out of natural stone and pour the floor with concrete. Furniture, flowerpots, and accessories should be selected very accurately. Only natural materials, no plastic
The fireplace of the original form, cast from concrete, is the undeniable success of the architects who designed this garden. But I want to note another thing – gravel backfill. Such a coating is simply irreplaceable for gardens in our climate. Unlike sand, small river pebbles dry quickly after rain. It has a nice tactile effect – it is convenient and useful to walk barefoot on it. In addition, the stones are so good rustle under your feet!
The Lonely White Sail Grows White
In this patio, the authors of the project “sang an ode” of symmetry, straight lines, and simple forms. The ideal plane of the lawn, the smooth wall of the thorn bushes, the horizontal of the steps and the wooden floor … At the forefront are the rigor, rhythm, and uniformity of all the details. Even the canopy is sewn from flat strips of the white matter!
The image of your garden can be built on changing lighting scenarios. The authors of this project combined two types of fixtures: static – burning shields with frames from American films and dynamic – upward halogen lamps built into the concrete podium. By the way, take note of this method: when the plants are planted in the depressions (like here), they seem bushy and lush.
The problem of zoning is relevant in large and small gardens. One way to protect yourself from prying eyes is to put a wooden grate on the patio. Unlike a blind wall, it does not interfere with the penetration of sunlight and at the same time creates a sense of chamberings.
An alternative to an ordinary lawn is a “curly rug” made from perennial creeping ground cover plants. They are both flowering and evergreen. In our climate, the pahizandra apex or swinefish migratory is well established.
The tradition to build a full kitchen in the garden came to Europe from America. In the States, to have a dining table, a stove, a refrigerator, a grill and wine cupboards on the street is a common thing. In this project over the summer, kitchen hangs a rectangular pergola – it protects the cook from the scorching sun. In our climate, I would advise you to cover the construction with roofing copper.
Partitions of bright colors in any weather create a festive mood in the garden. In this case, they are cast from concrete and painted in yellow plates, illuminated by halogen lamps, which are mounted directly on the floor (such lighting accentuates the texture of the wall). In principle, if the garden area allows, nothing prevents you from building such a deaf plate a whole labyrinth.
We are shooting a copy
The patio is often called an open-air room. Some understand this literally. In this green living room is everything that is supposed to. Even painting over the sofa. Only instead of a concrete wall – a hedge, instead of soft furniture – plastic cast, instead of a carpet – a green lawn. Find designer – mirrors: these traps for light echo with the shiny water surface of the pond and fill the garden with the sun.
